A bit about Penny
Penny was very easy to get along with. She was known for her kind heart, thoughtfulness, and class. She was also known for her cheeky nature. She was always ready to ham it up with others donning props and hats, life with Penny was never dull. She had a laugh and a smile that were forever infectious. While Penny was not easily given to disagreements, growing up in her household you could count on a playful pat on your behind and/or an eye roll as her final response.
She was a passionate and consummate gardener who happily ‘borrowed’ low-lying, overhanging lilacs and fruits when the opportunity arose on her many walks, then happily ‘returned’ them by gifting her garden flowers to people in the community. Her pantry and freezer were well stocked with her delicious Lazy Daisy Cake, special Cream Cheese appie rolls, and yummy frozen cookie dough rolls ready for the oven. Penny was a self-taught seamstress, knitter, and Teddy Bear maker extraordinaire. She loved the water and swam like a fish.
Penny’s passion for travel led her to many exciting adventures in several countries throughout her lifetime, including crossing the Pacific by sailboat. On land, she helped pioneer the #vanlife movement as she traveled across the American continent.
In addition to her personal pursuits, Penny worked in a dental office and later at Birks, Grassies and Ann-Louise Jewelers where her friendly nature and love for jewelry made her a successful saleswoman. Through much of her life she generously devoted her time and energy to local community charitable work.
Despite her struggles with dementia in recent years, she faced her condition with grace and never let it dim her warm-hearted spirit.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Kiwanis Pavilion for the dignified and compassionate care they provided, and to Dianne for the friendship and love she gave to Penny during her time there. Penny will be forever in our hearts.
